Actuarial Exams- Order in which exams should be taken!!

If you are studying to become an actuary in future , it is very important that you follow a certain order for maximum success in exams.
I will be discussing about CT series in this article. CA , ST and SA will follow in other articles!!

CT series consists of the following subjects:

1. CT1 Financial Mathematics
2. CT2 Finance and Financial Reporting
3. CT3 Probability & Mathematical Statistics
4. CT4 Models
5. CT5  General Insurance, Life and Health Contingencies
6. CT6 Statistical Methods
7. CT7  Business Economics
8. CT8 Financial Economics
9. CT9 BAM (Business Awareness Module)

The list has been bifurcated keeping different streams in mind.

1. Science background

Someone who has studied maths/ stats can go for CT 1 / CT 3 in the beginning. These are the basic exams.
For people from stats background CT-3 will prove to be very easy.

If you haven't studied maths at grad level, you can still go for CT-1.

2. Commerce background
CT-2 will prove to be the easiest. Commerce graduates can opt for CT-1/ CT-7( if you have studied economics till 12th if not graduation)  as well.

3. Arts
You can go for CT-7 if you have studied economics. CT-1 again can be 1 of the options.

CT-6 is dependent on CT-3 so make sure you study CT-3 before opting for CT-6.
CT-2 and CT-7 are more of independent exams where CT series is concerned.
CT-5 is dependent on CT-1. Also CT-4 and CT-5 are inter related so if possible take CT-4 and CT-5 together.
CT-8 should be taken only after you have studied  all the exams in CT-series as it uses most of the other subjects as basics.

CT 9 is an independent subject and it is quite easy. One has to clear CT-9 before hopping on to the next series. As per IAI(Institute of actuaries of India) one can register for CT-9 exam only after clearing atleast 2 of the CT series exams.
