How to study for an actuarial exam (India and UK exams)

Well the reason for writing this article is that actuarial exams are one of the toughest exams out there with very low passing percentage. Therefore even after completing the course, one can't be 100% sure about clearing the exam.

We have quite alot of resources these days that we can refer to but should one be looking at all the material that IAI and IOA provides us; the answer is "NO".

The course material is vast; therefore one needs to be selective enough so as to get maximum success even when there is a time constraint.

Please note that I will be discussing every subject separately and will be giving just an overview here. See the posts on specific subjects for  more information.

I will be talking primarily about the actuarial exams from IOA and IAI here.

For exams from UK, below mentioned study plan can be useful:

First complete the Course material

You can refer the Revision Notes as soon as you finish the chapters or at the end of a section or after completing the entire course. You need not do the entire booklet; just doing the past paper questions should be enough.

Next do the Question Banks and Assignments. The order doesn't matter much here but if there is a time constraint, doing Question Bank would be a better option.

For exams from India, study plan similar to above can be followed with minute changes.

Course material
Revision Notes
India Past Papers
Question Banks
Assignments

NOTE : To increase your chances of passing an exam, practice lots of questions.

Hope this article helps you in clearing your actuarial exams at a good pace.
Happy studying !!
